60th surprise party

I had the pleasure of photographing a surprise 60th birthday party last month. I must say, I hope I look this good when I'm 60! I never would have guessed! It was a fun time, I particularly enjoyed the ladies getting down to Beyonce's "Single Ladies (Put a ring on it)". Alveria is very loved. It was a very special night for this family.

Q&A

What is your website URL?
http://www.meganbrittinghamphotography.com

Where are you from and how old are you?
I am 26 years old. I was born in Toms River, New Jersey, but we only lived there briefly. My dad was in the Navy so we've lived all of the east coast. I moved from Virginia Beach, to Philadelphia to go to college and I just stayed in the area. I love Philly!

How did you get into Photography?

I always loved taking photos, even with my plastic 35mm as a child. I used to use my best friends as models and make them pose for me. I just knew it was something I wanted to do.

You went school for photography and you work in the mortgage / title industry? How did that come about?

Before I went to college I got a job in the industry, back in Virginia Beach, and after I left school I needed something full time and permanent so I went back into that field. I honestly enjoy it. I've had a lot of different jobs and I like this field. Of course photography is my passion and would like to have photography be my main source of income one day, but no matter what, it will always be my passion and I will never give it up. I take my photography jobs very seriously.

What kind of clients do you enjoy working with?

I've never had a client that I didn’t like. I get to be part of someone's special day, and I think my clients and I both realize that. I do gear myself towards budget brides and I realize some people don’t understand that. I just understand their situation, my fiance and I are paying for our wedding ourselves and are the tightest of budgets! I just don’t feel the need to over charge. I think you can get yourself into a lot of trouble that way. I am honest. I'm not a sales person. No bridezillas please!

What is the highest form of compliment any client can give to you?

A referral! Or an email expressing any form of compliment or appreciation or something like that.

What kind of music do you like?

Most rock music, any kind of rock! Alternative rock, classic rock, indie rock, etc.

You have a growing collection of tattoos, does that ever stop you from getting photo jobs?

No. My clients are pretty cool. I don’t have many visible tattoos and the few ones that are visible are very small and discrete. I present myself professionally when photographing an event. I'd love to work with a very tattooed bride one day though! *hint hint*

What do you do for fun?

My fiance and I are huge movie fans. We go to the movies pretty regularly. Netflix is amazing. I also enjoy going to dive bars and drinking a few beers and catching up with friends. I love, love, love going to concerts. I occasionally enjoy going dancing, but I think I'm getting to old for it. I'm a terrible dancer but hey, its fun! We're kind of homebodies and we stay in a lot and rent movies and hang out with our dog on the sofa. That’s always the highlight of my day.

Whats your favorite movie, tv show, band, artist, etc?

My favorite tv show is Six Feet Under. Favorite movie is American Beauty. Band - the smashing pumpkins & nine inch nails. Artists are Salvador Dali, Andy Warhol, Annie Leibovitz and my fiance and I both like HR Giger too.

Do we get prints? Can we print our own photos?

Prints can be added or ordered at any time. My contract does include copyright transfer to allow you to print your own images at any time and anywhere! I do still maintain the right to display the images for portfolio, marketing, advertising purposes..

Do you travel?

I love to travel! A travel fee will applied for any distance further than 50 miles from Philadelphia zip code 19103. The travel fee is $1 per extra mile. Email me and we can work out those details!

How do we book our date?

I require a signed contract, a completed information form about the wedding, and a 20% deposit.

How & when do I pay you?

I can accept checks or money orders payable to Megan Brittingham. The deposit is due up front, upon signing the contract and the remaining balance is due the day of the wedding.

Can we arrange a meeting?

Sure! I am available on some weekends for consultations out of my home office, based in Port Richmond, Philadelphia!

Can you tell me about yourself?

I am a 26 year old part time freelance photographer. I photograph weddings on most weekends each month. I am laid back, easy going, and easy to work with. I am very friendly, and approachable. I try to make my clients feel comfortable with me, and hopefully they will feel comfortable enough to share their ideas, creative thoughts, and opinions with me. I am always open to my client or their guests approaching me and asking me to take a particular photograph.

I work full time and work as photographer (my passion) part-time, therefore, it can be difficult to reach me by telephone. I do respond to my emails within 24 hours. I am very easy to get a hold of. It is my goal to provide affordable & creative wedding photography in a very laid back and open manner, while still being unobtrusive.

What is photo journalistic photography?

Its an alternative approach where images are captured spontaneously to emphasize moments an emotion. Its a presentation of a story or time period as they unfold through photographs. Photojournalists typically shoot images quickly using available light or on-camera flash. I do however have lights for portraits if requested (these are not available for weddings).

How long does it take to get my final photos?

After the wedding, I begin processing the images. This is a time consuming process. I try my very best to work as fast as possible because I understand the excitement to see them, however I also don't want to take shortcuts on the images, and provide a CD that I know could have been better. I will post photos as I go for you to view on under the client section of my website. I also do my very best to email my clients throughout this process, to keep them up to date on the status. The more images I have to work on and the busier the season, the longer the post production process will take. I will do my best to get these to you ASAP!

Do you allow other people to take photographs while you are working?

Sure! I don't mind that at all. I just ask that any one taking photos allow me freedom to move around, and doesn't get in the way of me taking photos. I also ask that anyone taking photos while you are posing for your group portraits wait until I have gotten my shot, they are then free to snap away!

What kinds of couples do you normally work with?

I normally work with couples on a budget. I often shoot unique offbeat types of weddings. I also have plenty of experience with traditional weddings.

Who will you not work with?

No one! But no Bridezillas please!

Do you do family portraits?

Yes! I love unique photo journalistic style family portraits! I also have experience with headshots, pets, small children and babies. Email me for samples!  meganbrittinghamphotography@gmail.com
